The Katey Howes Maker Scholarship

The Katey Howes Maker Scholarship honors the legacy of children’s book author Katey Howes. Friends, family, and publishing peers of Kathryn “Katey” Howes have established this special scholarship to celebrate the way Katey and her stories encourage children to build strong selves and strong communities with curiosity and compassion. Katey was an advocate for excellence in children’s books. Her work brought together themes of self-awareness, bravery, social justice, and becoming a change-maker!

We hope that all annual scholarships awarded will encourage fellow storytellers to build a better world for our children.

“Ask yourself this question in the morning when you wake: in a world of possibilities, today, what will you make?”

-Katey Howes, Be a Maker (Carolrhoda Books, 2019)
