Andrea M. Page Scholarship

Established in loving memory of Andrea M. Page, this scholarship honors a life devoted to children, community, and the transformative power of story.

Andrea came to Boyds Mills as a student, returning as a faculty member, and always, as a friend. For thirty-four years, Andrea served as a classroom teacher, guiding young people toward empathy, curiosity, and courage. A proud citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, she revered her Hunkpapa Lakota heritage, and used this love in her writing to center children, amplify Native and Indigenous history and Lakota values. As a mother of four and grandmother of four, she shared with them her belief that stories shape the way children see themselves and their world.

Andrea believed that a book in a child’s hand could change the world. She lived that belief mentoring writers, creating educator guides, uplifting Native voices, and showing up with generosity wherever and whenever she was needed. At Boyds Mills, she shared her wisdom with humility and care (and a healthy dose of humor).

This scholarship celebrates storytellers who carry that same belief as Andrea: stories matter, representation matters, and generosity is not only our responsibility, but our privilege to provide to one another. Get more information about the scholarship process and apply here.
