Beth brody poetry of nature scholarship
Beth Brody was a poet, nature lover, chef, dog rescuer, wife, mother, friend, and fervent cheerleader for Boyds Mills. Those who loved her came together to create a scholarship in her name so that her legacy will be carried on and future generations of poets have access to educational opportunities at Boyds Mills.
A former New York City girl, born and raised, Beth eventually moved to the “wilds” of Hartford, Connecticut, where she taught educational children’s classes at her local nature center. From there, her passion for nature flourished. After completing her MFA in Creative Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, Beth focused her energies on poetry, often using the natural world as inspiration. Her 2018 poem, “Sing the Solitary Sunrise,” earned first place in the Writer’s Digest Poetry Awards. Other poetry appeared in Written Tales Volumes II and III, Poet’s Choice: Flight of a Feather, Auroras and Blossoms, Wild World Journals, and in the anthologies IMPERFECT: Poems About Mistakes, Rhyme and Rhythm: Poems for Student Athletes, and Things We Do.
This scholarship honors Beth’s passion for poetry and nature by awarding one scholarship annually to a poet whose work is informed by and elevates the natural world.
